No MIRA, uma MESA COMUM no último sábado de Julho!
No último fim de semana, juntámo-nos num MESA COMUM no pátio do MIRA. Na mesa, comidas do mundo trazidas pelo projeto e pelo que foi trazido pelos participantes nesta tarde de sábado. Mas a tarde não se ficou pela mesa: Camilo, um afamado DJ, deu-nos música e houve um wks de danças colombianas que animaram os corpos. Migrantes, amigos, público do MIRA e desconhecidos, mostraram que estarmos juntos permite conhecermos-nos e aceitarmos-nos mutuamente nas nossas diferenças e semelhanças. Ficámos de corações cheios!

Last weekend, we gathered around a COMMON TABLE in the MIRA courtyard. On the table were foods from around the world brought by the project and by the participants on that Saturday afternoon. But the afternoon didn't stop at the table: Camilo, a famous DJ, played music for us, and there was a Colombian dance workshop that got everyone moving. Migrants, friends, MIRA visitors, and strangers showed that being together allows us to get to know and accept each other in our differences and similarities. Our hearts were full!

FEIRA COMUM
Feira Comum: uma tarde plena!
Confessamos que estávamos ansiosos! No projeto MESA COMUM, a feira era um dos momentos altos porque iríamos contactar com imigrantes que de outro modo não conheceríamos. Ficamos surpreendidos com a quantidade de pessoas - organizadas ou em nome individual – que se dedicam à produção de comidas, expressões plásticas, artesanato, música.
Tivemos cerca de 30 manifestações de interesse e quando vimos as pessoas a chegar carregadas com as suas mercadorias perguntamo-nos, inquiet@s, se teríamos público para comprar e consumir. A surpresa da tarde foi a enchente que se acotovelou no MIRAflora! Não conseguimos descrever o ambiente e substantivos como harmonia, bem-estar, bem-querer não dizem como aconteceu este lugar comum.
Um super DJ animou a tarde e a voz portentosa de Michele Mara arrasou. E cantamos e dançamos!
Os abraços que demos e recebemos, a autêntica satisfação com que nos despedimos permite-nos dizer que foi uma tarde plena.

MARKET
Common Fair: a full afternoon!
We confess we were looking forward to it! As part of the MESA COMUM project, the fair was one of the highlights because we were going to have contact with immigrants we wouldn't have met otherwise. We were surprised by the number of people - organized or individual - who produce food, plastic expressions, handicrafts and music. We had around 30 expressions of interest and when we saw the people arriving loaded down with their goods, we wondered if we would have the public to buy and consume. The surprise of the afternoon was how crowded MIRAflora was! We can't describe the atmosphere and nouns like harmony, well-being, well-wishing don't tell us how this common place came about.
A super DJ enlivened the afternoon and Michele Mara's portentous voice blew us away. And we sang and danced!
The hugs we gave and received and the genuine satisfaction with which we said goodbye allow us to say that it was a fulfilling afternoon.

Workshop Gastronómico #02 | Marrocos
No passado sábado, o projeto MESA COMUM | o Mundo em Campanhã reuniu, em Miraflor, a comunidade para realizarmos o segundo de três workshops gastronómicos.
Raina, arquiteta e atualmente a trabalhar num centro de refugiados apresentou-nos uma lista de novas comidas e sabores, entre elas: carne com ameixas, briwat de frango, tajine de frango com legumes e salada marroquina. O último workshop gastronómico está marcado para dia 26 de julho.
Os participantes seguiram a par e passo todas as etapas destas receitas que são expressão genuína da cultura marroquina. Comprovaram que os sabores, experimentados pela primeira vez por alguns dos presentes, são distintos dos nossos e apetecíveis também. Constataram também que esta gastronomia tem um elevado equilíbrio nutricional.

GASTRONOMICAL WORKSHOP #02 | MOROCCO
Last Saturday, the MESA COMUM | o Mundo em Campanhã project brought the community together in Miraflor for the second of three gastronomic workshops.
The participants followed all the stages of these recipes, which are a genuine expression of Moroccan culture. They saw that the flavors, experienced for the first time by some of those present, are different from ours and just as appetizing. They also saw that this cuisine has a high nutritional balance.
Raina, an architect currently working in a refugee center, presented us with a list of new foods and flavors, including: meat with plums, chicken briwat, chicken tajine with vegetables and Moroccan salad. The last gastronomic workshop is scheduled for July 26.

Workshop Gastronómico #01 | Colômbia
No mês passado, o projeto MESA COMUM | o Mundo em Campanhã reuniu, em Miraflor, a comunidade para realizarmos o primeiro de três workshops gastronómicos.
James Barrero, ativista social e defensor dos direitos humanos apresentou-nos uma lista de novas comidas e sabores, entre elas: plátano verde encocao, calentao, arepas colombianas, natilla colombiana e ainda cestinhas de banana-da-terra verde colombiana.
Uma verdadeira viagem gastronómica colombiana!
Os dois outros workshops estão agendados para dia 19 e 26 de julho.

Last month, the MESA COMUM | o Mundo em Campanhã project brought the community together in Miraflor for the first of three gastronomic workshops.
James Barrero, a social activist and human rights defender, presented us with a list of new foods and flavors, including: plátano verde encocao, calentao, Colombian arepas, Colombian natilla and Colombian green plantain baskets.
A real Colombian gastronomic journey!
The other two workshops are scheduled for July 19 and 26.

Uma produtiva colaboração!
Há três anos que as MIRA Galerias | MIRA FORUM desenvolvem uma parceria com a Universidade Lusófona - Centro Universitário Porto através da professora Vanessa Ribeiro Rodrigues.
É em torno de projetos com a comunidade que os estudantes da disciplina Intermedia e Narrativas Híbridas se envolvem com o MIRA contribuindo com as suas pesquisas para o desenvolvimento mais aprofundado dos nossos projetos. Este ano, os finalistas do Curso de Jornalismo integraram o projeto MESA COMUM que tem como objetivo aproximar as comunidades imigrantes aos portuguesas através da comida.
Hoje, dia 3 de junho, assistimos no Salão Nobre da Universidade à apresentação dos trabalhos de 16 grupos de estudantes que centraram a sua pesquisa e registo na zona de Campanhã e Bonfim.
Ficamos a "conhecer" pessoas, hábitos diferentes dos nossos, histórias de vida que são prova da capacidade de superação das pessoas que optaram por viver no nosso país.
Logo que o Webdocumentário esteja pronto, publicá-lo-emos!
O sucesso deste projeto justifica o desejo que esta parceria continue! Há muito mundo para desbravar, há gente excecional a conhecer.

FANTASTIC COLABORATION!
For the last three years, MIRA Galerias | MIRA FORUM has been developing a partnership with Universidade Lusófona - Centro Universitário Porto through Professor Vanessa Ribeiro Rodrigues. It is around projects with the community that students from the Intermedia and Hybrid Narratives course get involved with MIRA, contributing their research to the further development of our projects.
This year, the Journalism finalists took part in the MESA COMUM project, which aims to bring immigrant communities closer to the Portuguese through food.
Today, June 3, we attended the presentation of the work of 16 groups of students in the University's Salão Nobre, who focused their research and recording on the Campanhã and Bonfim areas.
We “got to know” people, habits that are different from our own, life stories that are proof of the ability of people who have chosen to live in our country to overcome.
As soon as the webdocumentary is ready, we'll publish it!
The success of this project justifies the desire for this partnership to continue! There's a lot of world to explore, there are exceptional people to meet.

CELEBRAÇÃO DO DIA DA CULTURA HAZARA
Um grupo de jovens afegãos que pertencem ao povo Haraza propuseram que organizássemos em conjunto o Dia da Cultura Hazara.
Numa semana, conseguimos em conjunto organizar uma tarde de convívio em que juntos partilhámos as expressões culturais de um dos grupos étnicos mais perseguidos ao longo da história, situação que se agravou com o regresso dos Talibãs ao poder.
Um documentário, uma conversa sobre a cultura Hazara, uma mostra de trajes tradicionais, música soada pela dambora, dança e, claro, comida tradicional cozinhada pelos próprios.
A alegria marcou a tarde e ficamos a saber mais sobre este povo afegão tão martirizado. Vamos continuar a cooperar para bem de todos!

HAZARA CULTURE DAY CELEBRATION
A group of young Afghans belonging to the Haraza people proposed that we organize Hazara Culture Day together.
In one week, we managed to organize a social afternoon together in which we shared the cultural expressions of one of the most persecuted ethnic groups in history, a situation that has worsened with the return of the Taliban to power.
A documentary, a talk about Hazara culture, a display of traditional costumes, music played by the dambora, dancing and, of course, traditional food cooked by the Hazara themselves.
The afternoon was filled with joy and we learned more about these martyred Afghan people. Let's keep cooperating for the good of all!

O 25 DE ABRIL A 22 DE ABRIL E TODOS OS DIAS!
No dia 22, antecipamos o 25 de Abril celebrando o trabalho colaborativo em torno de um projeto dirigido aos migrantes.
De manhã e ao início da tarde, reunimos com dois turnos da turma de estudantes finalistas do Curso de Jornalismo da Universidade Lusófona acompanhados pela professora Vanessa Ribeiro Rodrigues. Foi uma reunião para fazer o balanço dos contactos desenvolvidos pelos estudantes com pessoas imigrantes na freguesia de Campanhã e as etapas para as próximas semanas. De registar o foco, o empenho e o rigor das intervenções dos vários grupos.
Ao fim da tarde, foi tempo do encontro com associações que desenvolvem trabalho com as comunidades imigrantes da cidade. Presentes 20 pessoas a representar diferentes associações que partilharam as suas experiências e recursos. Começámos à volta de uma mesa com petiscos salgados e doces trazidos pelo MIRA e por quem participou. Teceram-se ideias com o objetivo de conhecermos melhor o território e de quem o habita vindo de outras partes do mundo. Há muito a fazer a que corresponde muita vontade de encarar e aprofundar as relações com os novos habitantes da cidade.
Alargar estas colaborações é o propósito do projeto MESA COMUM. Por isso, acolhemos todos os contributos de pessoas individuais, de grupos e associações que conheçam ou contactem com migrantes no Grande Porto.

On April 22nd, we anticipated April 25th by celebrating collaborative work on a project aimed at migrants.
In the morning and early afternoon, we met with two shifts of final-year students from the Journalism course at Lusófona University, accompanied by their teacher Vanessa Ribeiro Rodrigues. It was a meeting to take stock of the contacts made by the students with immigrants in the parish of Campanhã and the steps for the coming weeks. It is worth noting the focus, commitment and rigor of the interventions of the various groups.
At the end of the afternoon, it was time for a meeting with associations that work with the city's immigrant communities. Twenty people representing different associations shared their experiences and resources. We started around a table with savory and sweet snacks brought by MIRA and those who took part. Ideas were shared with the aim of getting to know the area better and those who live there from other parts of the world. There's a lot to do and a lot of willingness to face up to and deepen relations with the city's new inhabitants.
The purpose of the MESA COMUM project is to broaden these collaborations. We therefore welcome all contributions from individuals, groups and associations who know or have contact with migrants in Greater Porto.

FESTA, FESTA, FESTA!
Marcámos o primeiro encontro/festa do projeto MESA COMUM no dia 18 de janeiro de 2025 e foi muito bom!
O MIRA encheu-se de gente até à rua de pessoas de todas as idades de de tantas origens: Colômbia, Brasil, Guiné Conacri, Nigéria, Cabo Verde, Arménia, Itália, Senegal, Gâmbia, Moçambique e muitos portugueses.
A mesa encheu-se de pratos, panelas e tachos de comida colorida e cheirosa feita de modos diferentes e muitos fizeram a sua primeira experiência de um sabor que desconheciam. Comemos, dançamos, rimo-nos juntos até ao anoitecer. O colombiano Juan deu o 1º workshop informal de danças latinas ensinando alguns passos de dança e os aprendizes não se saíram nada mal! As crianças à volta de uma mesa enrolaram plasticinas, pintaram, encheram e brincaram com balões e esta foi a sua linguagem comum. E entenderam-se bem mesmo não partilhando a mesma língua.
Ao ver tanta gente junta a falar línguas diferentes a resposta à pergunta: “O que nos une?” esteve ali, em Miraflor: a música, a dança, a comida, a gargalhada boa e a vontade do encontro com o outro que é diferente e que, afinal, é tão semelhante. Na festa estiveram os nossos amigos do outro lado da rua - os residentes do albergue com a Joana Carreira e a nossa parceira Patrícia Martins com os residentes do Centro de Acolhimento Temporário do Serviço de Jesuítas aos Refugiados. No fim do dia, ficou a certeza que nos vamos juntar de novo e que o projeto MESA COMUM é preciso para criar espaço e tempo para que se viva a diferença como um bem e não uma ameaça e provar o nosso lema: “Estranhos são os vizinhos que não conhecemos”.

PARTY, PARTY, PARTY!
We held the first meeting/party of the MESA COMUM project on January 18, 2025 and it was great!
MIRA was filled to the street with people of all ages from so many backgrounds: Colombia, Brazil, Guinea Conakry, Nigeria, Cape Verde, Armenia, Italy, Senegal, Gambia, Mozambique and many Portuguese.
The table was filled with plates, pots and pans of colorful and delicious food made in different ways and many had their first experience of a taste they didn't know. We ate, danced and laughed together until nightfall. Colombian Juan gave the first informal Latin dance workshop, teaching a few dance steps and the apprentices didn't do too badly! The children rolled plasticine around a table, painted, filled and played with balloons and this was their common language. And they understood each other well even though they didn't share the same language.
Watching so many people together speaking different languages, the answer to the question: “What unites us?” was there, in Miraflor: the music, the dancing, the food, the good laughs and the desire to meet the other who is different and who, after all, is so similar. Our friends from across the street were at the party - the residents of the shelter with Joana Carreira and our partner Patrícia Martins with the residents of the Temporary Reception Center of the Jesuit Refugee Service. At the end of the day, we were sure that we'll get together again and that the MESA COMUM project is needed to create space and time to experience difference as an asset and not a threat and to prove our motto: “Strangers are the neighbors we don't know”.

FESTA NA ESCOLA MONTEBELLO
A tarde de quarta-feira, dia 25 de junho de 2024, foi diferente na Escola Montebello que fica no Bairro de Costa Cabral que celebrou em festas os 75 anos. Esta escola tem cerca de 250 alunos - 3 turmas do pré-escolar e 8 do 1º ciclo - de 21 nacionalidades com o que é um enorme desafio para a escola. A festa refletia bem essa diversidade o que não comprometeu a harmonia das canções.
A direção, os professores, outros trabalhadores da escola e encarregados de educação contam com muitos parceiros para conseguirem desenvolver projetos integrados e integradores. A festa refletiu o bem-estar e alegria desde os pequeninos aos mais velhos que cantavam a plenos pulmões canções que celebram a liberdade, a fraternidade, a solidariedade.
Vamos acompanhar os projetos inclusivos que são partilhados por todos os elementos da comunidade educativa da escola de Montebello.
CELEBRATION AT MONTEBELLO SCHOOL
The afternoon of Wednesday, June 25 of 2024, was different at Montebello School, located in the Costa Cabral neighborhood, as it celebrated its 75th anniversary with festivities. This school, which serves around 250 students—3 preschool classes and 8 primary school classes—represents 21 nationalities, posing a significant challenge for the institution. The celebration vividly reflected this diversity, without compromising the harmony of the songs.
The school’s administration, teachers, staff, and parents work together with many partners to develop integrated and inclusive projects. The event showcased the well-being and joy of everyone, from the youngest to the oldest, who sang songs celebrating freedom, fraternity, and solidarity with great enthusiasm.
Let us continue to follow the inclusive projects shared by all members of the Montebello School’s educational community.
1ª APRESENTAÇÃO DO PROJETO EM JUNHO À VOLTA DE UMA MESA
No dia 22 de junho de 2024, organizámos um encontro nas MIRA Galerias onde apresentámos pela 1ª vez o projeto MESA COMUM. Pedimos às pessoas que trouxessem um petisco para podermos partilhar e simbolicamente dar protagonismo à mesa comum que estava disponível no MIRAflora, o pátio aromático do MIRA.
Em roda, conversamos sobre o projeto: os objetivos que definimos e um apelo à participação de todos e todas. Trocámos ideias e propostas para levar a cabo as diferentes fases do projeto.
De seguida, fomos fazer um percurso fotográfico pela zona do Terminal de Campanhã. De regresso, foi tempo de abrir os farnéis e juntar ao contributo do MIRA - iscas, broa e azeitonas – as iguarias de cada um. Rapidamente a mesa se encheu de pratos cheios de doces e salgados. A sessão prolongou-se até ao fim da tarde quente a coberto da ramada do pátio.
Confirmámos que é à volta de uma mesa que os diálogos rolam mais animados e ricos em ideias para o futuro.

1st PRESENTATION OF THE PROJECT IN JUNE AROUND A TABLE
On 22 June of 2024, we organised a meeting at MIRA Galleries, where we presented the MESA COMUM (Common Table) project for the first time. We asked people to bring a snack so we could share it and symbolically give centre stage to the common table that was available in MIRAflora, MIRA's aromatic courtyard.
As a group, we talked about the project: the objectives we had set and an appeal for everyone to take part. We exchanged ideas and proposals for carrying out the different phases of the project.
Then we went on a photographic tour of the Campanhã Terminal area. On our return, it was time to open the flapjacks and add everyone's own delicacies to MIRA's contribution - baits, bread and olives. The table was quickly filled with plates full of sweet and savoury dishes. The session lasted until the end of the hot afternoon under the cover of the patio.
We confirmed that it's around a table that dialogues are most lively and rich in ideas for the future.
